PANJIM: The State government has constituted a six-member task force to identify areas and suggest measures to improve the irrigation and agriculture yield in the State.

The task force, to be headed by Chief Engineer Water Resources Department (WRD), has to identify the areas under three heads – those that receive regular irrigation water and agriculture inputs, those that receive regular irrigation water but irregular agricultural inputs and also those that receive irregular irrigation water but regular agricultural inputs.

Areas which can be identified as potentials for supply of regular irrigation water and agricultural inputs are also to be identified by the task force, which can constitute taluka level teams for assistance.

WRD Chief Engineer S T Nadkarni said the task force has to suggest means to provide required supply of irrigation water and agriculture inputs for increasing the area under agriculture and enhance the yield of crops in the State.

“It has to also suggest measures for improvement in irrigation and agriculture keeping in mind technological advances in vogue and if necessary suggest schemes for implementation,” he said.

The task force has to submit its recommendations to the government within six months of its notification, which was issued on Thursday.
