PANJIM: The fate of 5,038 candidates who were in the fray for the1,464 panchayat wards will be decided on Friday when the counting of votes will be taken up. 

The counting across 15 centres would start at 8am and early trends are expected to be available within a few hours. Over 70 per cent voter turnout was recorded on the polling day. 

A strong posse of security personnel have been deployed at all the counting centres. As many as 64 candidates have already been declared elected unopposed. 

Apart from several former sarpanchas and panchas, many young and new faces are in fray. There were also three persons with disability (PwD) candidates who contested the polls. 

The counting of votes for Tiswadi taluka, comprising of 18 panchayats will be done at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium. There are 583 contesting candidates from the taluka. 

For Sattari, the counting will take place at the Kadamba bus stand hall, Valpoi. There are 259 candidates in fray from six village panchayats. 

The counting for Bardez taluka, with highest number of 33 village panchayats and 995 candidates, will be held at two locations - Peddem Sports Complex and DayanandB andodkar Krida Sankul. While counting for 21 village panchayats will be undertaken at Peddem Sports Complex, the results of remaining 12 will be declared at Dayanand Bandodkar Krida Sankul. 

Similarly, the counting for Salcete taluka, which also comprises of 33 village panchayats and 863 candidates, will take place at the Mathany Saldanha Administrative Complex. 

With nine panchayats and 450 candidates, for Pernem taluka Deendayal Bhavan-Tuem has been notified as counting centre. Multipurpose Sports complex is the counting centre for Bicholim taluka, where 17 panchayats have gone for polls with 380 candidates in fray. 

The counting for 19 panchayats from Ponda taluka will be done at ITI Farmagudi. There are total 601 candidates in fray. 

For Sanguem, with seven panchayats and 156 candidates, the counting will take place at Government Sports Complex, Khairikatem while for Dharbandora with least number of five panchayats, the counting of votes will take place at Government office building. There are 123 canddiates in Dharbandora. 

For Quepem, comprising of 11 panchayats, the counting is scheduled at Government Sports Complex while for Canacona, with seven panchayats, the counting is at Mamlatdar office. There are 240 and 169 candidates in Quepem and Canacona, respectively. 

For Mormugao taluka with seven panchayats and 219 candidates, the counting is scheduled at the Ravindra Bhavan, Baina.
