MARGAO: A complaint was filed against Vijai Sardesai’s man Johnny Crasto and his alleged gang for assaulting ST leader and Congress Candidate Joseph Silva in Dovondem. A complaint under Sections 341, 504 and 323 of IPC has been registered by the police and are investigating into the incident.

Joseph along with Congress workers was campaigning in the ward when a group alleged of Goa Forward members led by Jonny Crasto allegedly blocked the road and verbally abused them and threatening them to leave. The Congress said that they physically assaulted Joseph and the Congress workers.

The Congress workers informed that when flying squad arrived, the Goa Forward party members ran away. A cognizable offence has been filed at Margao police station.

Meanwhile, the Margao town police inspector claimed that the police are investigating on the complaint. “Since it is a complaint with elections in the background, it is important for us to tread with caution and with evidence,” Margao town PI C L Patil said.

The Goa Forward candidate Vijai Sardesai, meanwhile, said that this is an attempt of the Congress in Fatorda to seek cheap publicity. “We are not fools to act so desperate on the verge of polls in Goa and this is the attempt of Congress of Fatorda which further confirms that the people are not with them,” Vijai said.
