Fatorda farmers cry foul over comunidade’s plans to give away land for projects

MARGAO: Farmers from Tollebandh, Fatorda have cried foul over the Comunidade’s plans to give away the land for projects. The farmers have vowed to continue farming and requested against taking over the land.

MARGAO: Farmers from Tollebandh, Fatorda have cried foul over the Comunidade’s plans to give away the land for projects. The farmers have vowed to continue farming and requested against taking over the land. 

Farmers from Tollebandh have alleged that the road widening besides the joggers track in Tollebandh has stopped the flow of water to and fro from the agricultural land. The farmers further complained that the closure of this outlet will to flood the land and lead to losses. 

Over 50 people gathered on Monday and demanded that the farmers be allowed to continue farming here. 

"We have been cheated when the PJN Stadium came in Fatorda and also when the District hospital came up in Ambaji, Fatorda" said Caitano Lawrence Silva. 

Speaking to media persons, Piedade Noronha said that the Comunidade Attorney has informed that there is a plan for lake project on this land. 

"There can’t be a lake project at the cost of the farmers’ livelihood," said Piedade. 

Eighty-year-old Rita Camara said that for over 20 decades she has been inconvenienced due to the closure of the water channel. "We have been forced to cut down our agricultural activities following the opening of the water channel and now our land is being planned to be taken away. We object to this."
