MARGAO: Utorda beach has been a favourite amongst Goans and tourists for its white sands and calm surroundings. Sadly the beach has taken a beating of various issues ranging from parking to garbage, and also sewage in nallahs.

Neves Pereira, an activist from Utorda, said, “Utorda beach already has a small parking area and to add to the problems the trucks and lorries coming to the hotels for parties and events are parked on the road sides which is causing congestion.” Neves also suggested that more land be acquired near the beach and used for parking area. “We also need changing rooms for women who are in a fix because of lack of proper changing facility,” Neves said.

Speaking on the issues, local MLA Wilfred D’Sa said, “Utorda beach is famous but has got very bad and filthy over time. I will take up this matter with the authorities and also make sure that we have better facilities soon.”

Like Colva, even Utorda beach has been troubled by a nallah which brings in lot of sewage to the beach coupled with filth and smell. The locals have also demanded that the discharge of sewage into these water channels be stopped with immediate effect.
