Few proposals received for discussions at gram sabhas

MARGAO: In most of the villages from Salcete where gram sabhas were held on Sunday there was no correspondence from the villagers with the exception of a few due to which the gram sabhas were adjourned even before 12 noon.

Davorlim Dicarpale panchayat received a letter from a villager demanding no mega projects in the village. However, following a discussion the gram sabha resolved that “mega-project” be defined before the resolution was adopted. The gram sabha also received correspondence regarding garbage management that was adopted.

Curtorim gram sabha took up for discussion the three correspondence they had received.

The panchayats of Chandor-Cavorim, Varca and Nuvem did not receive any correspondence from the villagers.

At Guirdolim, while no correspondence was received from the villagers, the letter written by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar pointing out that the gram sabhas were ill informed about including the six Goan rivers in national waterways and assuring the villagers that the local interest would be protected was taken up for discussion.

After the chief minister’s letter was read out, the Guirdolim gram sabha once again resolved against inclusion of Goan Rivers in the national waterways, on Sunday.
