At many places in Benaulim we see government electricity poles being used by private firms as carriers for internet cables, billboards, fiber optic cable and junction box mounts.
Not only is this patently illegal but is also a potential fire hazard by acting as a trigger for short circuits as the cables are bunched in close proximity to live wires. This pole was spotted at Maria Hall which is a sort of town square for the village. The government and panchayat authorities should take strict action against such rogue agencies and not wait for some mishap to happen.
