PANJIM: The District and Sessions Court on Friday granted anticipatory bail to alleged mastermind Sachin Naik and co-accused Virandra Mardolkar in the food grain scam. Both the accused are absconding.

The police had sought dismissal of the anticipatory bail applications of Borkar and Mardolkar as their custodial interrogation was necessary to unearth the entire conspiracy that was hatched and to get information on the sales and proceeds of the food grains.

Early last month, five persons arrested in the food gate— Ram Kumar, Prakash K, Tausif Ahmed Mulla, Hazrat Ali Sayyed and Vinay Kumar were granted bail by the judicial magistrate first class, Ponda.

On November 29, the Sessions Court had slammed the Crime Branch (CB) for submitting vague comments on the anticipatory bail applications. The Court pulled up the CB for its incomplete submission and questioned why the accused are not served notices to join the investigation.

The Crime Branch last month had busted major food grain smuggling racket.
