MARGAO: Stating bill moved by Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho is nothing but to secure his vote bank while lakhs of Niz Goenkars living as tenants in the State fear of evacuation, former minister Mickky Pacheco alleged that the “anti-Goan” minister is diluting Goa’s demand for a Special Status to maintain its unique identity.

Speaking to the media persons, Mickky said that the Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill 2021, which was recently passed in the House, is anti-Goan, aimed to appease outsiders and the Bill will permanently compromise Goa’s demand for a Special Status.

The former tourism minister, who proposes to move the High Court of Bombay in Goa shortly to scrap the Bill, will be petitioning Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai not to grant assent to the Bill.

“I shall be requesting His Excellency to rise above partisan party ideologies and reject the Bill in the interests of the people of Goa,” said Mickky.

Accusing the ruling BJP government of rushing such an important Bill that will alter Goa’s demography and uniqueness forever, the former MLA has blamed even the Opposition for selling themselves and Goa to the greedy land grabbers.

“Both the government and Opposition connived and conspired to pass the Bill and isn’t it evident? The government does not table the Bill for passing without either referring it to a select House Committee to study nor did it have a long session and a House debate to discuss the same,” points out Mickky.

He has appealed to all like-minded Goans to join him in his war to preserve Goa’s unique identity and its quest for Special Status.
