MARGAO: Following a meeting held between the Cavelossim panchayat, shack owners and Goa police, four hawkers found pestering tourists on Cavelossim beach were arrested.

Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz said the hawkers, who were harassing tourists near a starred resort were booked by the police under the relevant law and were later produced before the South Goa District Collector.

“We are very serious about tackling  beach hawkers who disturb the tourists who visit South Goa beaches for a peaceful holiday. We all know what the state of North Goa is, where there is hardly any beach that is peaceful. These hawkers bring a bad name to Goa. We also requested the shack owners to work with the police to tackle the issues of drug use, and tourists driving on the beach. We thank Colva Police Inspector Filomeno Costa for his full cooperation,” Vaz added.
