Fracas at railway station; 6 taxi drivers arrested

MARGAO: Margao Town Police on Monday arrested six taxi drivers following a fracas between tourist taxi drivers and GoaMiles taxi drivers at the Konkan Railway Corporation railway station at Margao at around 7:30am.

There were two complaints lodged with the police and based on those complaints the arrests were made. While four persons were arrested based on the complaint lodged by the GoaMiles taxi driver, two were arrested following a complaint by a driver of a black and yellow taxi.

Trouble broke out apparently when 32-year-old Kalindar Mohidin Naikmadi from Vasco who had come to drop a passenger by a GoaMiles taxi picked up another customer from the station for the return journey.

Based on his complaint police arrested Bhanudas Chawan from Rawanfond, Sagar Vedinkar from Pernem, Venkatesh Bhise from Fatorda and Damodar Naik from Canacona all taxi drivers at the KRC station.

Following a counter complaint by 40-year-old Damodar Naik, police arrested Anant Devay from Margao and Abdul Sayed also from Margao for assaulting Damodar Naik.
