GBA Bill has hurt sentiments of Goans: Sattari locals

Demand that it be renamed as ‘Dwellers Land Rights Bill Act’

SATTARI: Stating that the Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill (GBA), 2021 has hurt the sentiments of the sons of the soil, Sattari residents on Monday demanded that the same be renamed as ‘Dwellers Land Rights Bill Act’.

The locals said, “GBA Bill is a good. We welcome it and thank Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for passing this Bill. However, the title has hurt Goans as it needs to be changed to ‘Dwellers Land Rights Bill Act’.” 

“The Bill has hurt the sentiments of real Goans residing in the State for ages. We demand that the government rename the bill as ‘Dwellers Land Rights Bill Act’,” demanded Adv Ganpat Gaonkar.

Noted social worker Ranjitsing Rane, Adv Ganpat Gaonkar, Rajesh Gaonkar, Ganesh Paryekar and residents of Sattari addressed a press conference on Monday.

Rajesh Gaonkar said, “The GBA Bill is the first Bill, which has been introduced by the State government after Liberation to give the ownership of land on which the house has been built. However, while implementing this bill, we would like request the government against charging taxes.”

“We will write to the government suggesting some changes to the bill before its implementation as the same needs to be discussed in public,” Ranjitsing Rane said.
