PANJIM: Putting to rest all the confusions surrounding promotion of Class IX and Class XI students, the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has said that all the students, irrespective of their internal performance, would be promoted to the higher class.

The GBSHSE on July 3 issued a circular to heads of the secondary and higher secondary schools informing that the supplementary examination for the Academic Year 2019-20 for Class IX and Class XI stands cancelled thereby promoting them to the higher class.

However, a media report (not Herald) stating that only students who have failed in one or two subjects in Class IX and Class XI will be eligible to be promoted created confusion amongst educational institutions; as some schools had already promoted all the students.

When contacted, Goa Board chairman Ramakrishna Samant said that all the students are eligible to be promoted.

“The circular is with regards to promotion of all students,” he said.

In view of COVID outbreak and countrywide lockdown imposed, the final examination of class IX and XI, scheduled in March were cancelled. The supplementary exams are normally held in July-August.

Meanwhile, the Board is yet to finalise the date for declaration of Class X Board results. Nearly 19,000 students had answered Board exams held in May. The exams were delayed in view of lockdown.
