PANJIM: The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has directed the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs to file an FIR against the violators involved in unauthorised and illegal mass land filling in Kharewado, Vasco city, while undertaking development of playground.

The Authority during its recent meeting has also directed the department to restore the land to its original state within 30 days and to recover the cost of restoration from the violators.

NGO SAVERA had lodged a complaint against the department accusing it of rampant illegal mud-filling at Kharewada in PTS 61 chalata No.50/1(part) 2 and 3 of Vasco city, thereby violating 2013 order of NGT principle Bench.

NGT in its order dated 2013 had directed the department to remove the compound wall of the drainage constructed at that time. Thereafter, the department filed application for review and modification of consent order requesting modification of consent order as there was apprehension that there would be water logging if drainage walls are removed.

The green bench, however did not considered the review/modification.

The department informed GCZMA that they had not carried out any illegal land filling and that had filed a police complaint against unknown person, as the land belongs to Department of Sports & Youth Affairs.
