MARGAO: The Mandrem village panchayat on Friday revoked its NOCs and permits issued to a reputed builder for a project on Ashwem-Mandrem Beach, for allegedly violating the conditions of the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority and the panchayat.

The panchayat had issued

permissions/NOC for a guest house being constructed by Satyam Thakral, with the erection of two temporary shacks and 15 huts/cottages consisting of 30 rooms, in the property bearing survey no. 211/2-A plot "P" at Ashwem Mandrem in July this year. The locals opposed the project, following which the panchayat inspected the site and also issued a showcase notice to the builder, but did not receive any reply from the company. The matter was discussed during the panchayat’s fortnightly meeting, where it resolved to revoke the NOCs and permissions.

The panchayat and GCZMA had only permitted a ground floor construction, but during the inspection, it was found that an additional first floor was built. Sarpanch Adv Amit Sawant said, “ The first step is to revoke all necessary permissions/NOC officially, and then conduct a site inspection. Then, a report will be placed before the fortnightly meeting, to pass a demolition order, and then the file will be forwarded to the competent authority to provide a demolition squad.”
