vasco: VASCO: Goencho Ekvott (GE) has slammed Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral for his statement alleging few people along with some NGOs are opposing the Tanmar project.

GE further challenged the Minister for an open public debate at the time and place of his choice.

GE said, “It is very unfortunate that we have amongst us an elected representative like the Cabinet Minister for Power & Environment Nilesh Cabral who has made a very insensitive Press Statement against the very people who has elected him to the Goa Legislative Assembly to be their voice; rather than be the voice of Adani, Jindal and the Vedanta groups, whose only interest is to make more profits without having a concern about the disastrous 3 linear projects through Goa, which will have irreversible consequences on our health and environment.

"Cabral must understand that there is widespread resentment in Goa given that during a pandemic, when people are having difficulties for putting food on the table, a most insensitive government is pushing through the process of completing the formalities something that as a Minister of Environment he is duty bound to protect the Environment,” GE added in a statement issued on Wednesday.

"This is nothing short of an insult on the residents of Goa, one among the most developed and literate states of India and we GE, along with our supporting organizations, unequivocally condemn his statement and express our readiness to a public debate at a place and timing of his choice,” said GE.
