PANJIM: The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) on Tuesday disposed of off a complaint after it found that no human rights of the complainant by Sanjay Sarmalkar had been violated by authorities in implementing the pay parking scheme in the capital city.

Sarmalkar in his complaint dated July 7, 2021, had complained about the pay parking scheme within the jurisdiction of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP).

Sarmalkar stated that the pay parking fees are being charged only in Panjim city and not in other cities of the State. He further complained that the pay parking contractor is misusing the government circular and allowing pay parking in front of fire hydrant safety and putting pay parking sign boards illegally and endangering life.

However, Adv C Angle representing the CCP contended that it was the policy decision of the Corporation to levy pay parking fees and due process of law is being followed. He submitted that the Corporation through its officers had been monitoring the pay parking scheme in the city.
