PANJIM: The decision is now with State government to accept the recommendation of the Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) to appoint Dr Jay Prakash Tiwari as Dean of Goa Medical College (GMC) or to retain acting Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar.
The three-member department promotional committee of GPSC has recommended Tiwari, head of department of nephrology to the post of GMC Dean. Recommendations of the Goa Public Service Commission are advisory and not binding.
Personnel Department had sent the names of Tiwari, Bandekar and Dr Wiseman Pinto to the GPSC for its recommendation, for the appointment of Dean.
Currently Bandekar, head of department of orthopaedics is the officiating Dean. He also holds charge as medical superintendent of GMC.
Tiwari is six months senior to Bandekar, even as the former had submitted his technical resignation in April 2017 and requested he be relieved from the post of professor of nephrology and joined as professor of department of nephrology, Institute of Medical Sciences, Benares Hindu University, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
At the same time Tiwari requested he be allowed to keep lien over the post for two years. He was the only nephrologist in GMC, when he gave his technical resignation.
When contacted. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that he has so far not received the GPSC recommendations and added that the government will take an appropriate decision in the matter once the recommendations are received.
