MARGAO: GOACAN has launched its month long public health awareness campaign on the World TB Day which will be held in different villages and shall culminate on April 25 which is observed as World Malaria Day.
As part of the campaign Consumer Forum volunteers will visit the primary health centres, urban health centres, community health centres and sub health centres to understand the challenges faced by the staff at these centres to provide proper health care to the people.
GOACAN will also try to activate the village health, sanitation & nutrition committees at the panchayat level and ensure that the committees meet and submit the action taken report to the gram sabha when it is held.
One of the targets of the campaign is to prepare someone from the village to raise the issue of treatment of TB and prevention of malaria, dengue and rabies besides enforcing strict control on the sale of tobacco products in the village.
Besides distributing leaflets, posters will also be displayed creating awareness on rights and responsibility of consumers towards public health and urging the villagers to observe Village Health Day and get involved in the garbage management and water and sanitation committees.
Besides GOACAN volunteers will also educate people on the Goa Public Health Act and Rules and also the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act and how the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority can help them. Besides, National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, National Health Mission and Central Bureau of Health Intelligence will be explained.
