PANJIM: The Goa Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has imposed polluter pays principle fine of Rs 3.6 lakh to the Satt Adhar Arcade Housing Society in Mapusa for operating the premise without the consent required under Air and Water pollution Act. 

The action is been taken following a complaint filed by Goa Foundation in June 2019. The complainant had alleged that the residential project, comprising of total 275 flats, is operating in total violation of GSPCB norms on Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP). 

The Board during its inspection observed that the complex is operating without consent of the Board, without adequate wastewater and solid waste management and also STP is not been installed. 

The fine has been imposed towards compensation for the damage to the environment, which would be subsequently utilised by the Board for its restoration. 

The Board has also issued notice to the Hotel Gomantak Bar and Restaurant, operational along side of the premises for violation of environment norms and for operating without the consent of the Board.
