PANJIM: The Goa University (GU) has informed Bombay High Court at Goa that it has granted provisional permission to Don Bosco College of Agriculture, Sulcorna in Quepem, for first year BSc (Hons) agricultural programme for the academic year 2021-22.

The College had approached High Court last month challenging GU’s withdrawal of affiliation to its BSc (Hons) agricultural programme for the current term. The High Court had directed both GU and college to come to consensus.

Accordingly, the GU granted provisional affiliation to the college to first year BSc programme for the current academic term.

Based on the GU submission, the college has withdrawn its petition. The college that started in 2015 is the first agricultural institution in Goa to provide a professional 4-year degree prog in BSc (Hons) agriculture.

So far the college has seen three batches of students who completed the course. The college submitted to the court that they were not given an opportunity to be heard before the affiliation to the institution was withdrawn.

It sought continuation of the affiliation of the agricultural programme which was granted by GU on March 12, 2021. However, based on a letter of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), GU on July 31, 2021 withdrew affiliation without giving an opportunity to the institute to be heard. ICAR in a letter to the vice chancellor of GU had stated that the national agricultural education board of ICAR during its meeting did not consider BSc (Hons) agriculture programme of Don Bosco college of agriculture for accreditation.
