Gang rape: report on DNA profiling likely within a month

Team Herald

MARGAO: The two-member team of Colva police that had left for Hyderabad with exhibits for clinical analysis and DNA profiling has returned after handing over the exhibits and the report is expected within a month from now.

Colva Police Inspector Filomeno Costa while stating that team has returned within a week said he was determined to prepare an air tight case so that the three accused who gang raped a 20-year-old girl at Sunset Beach in Betalbatim last month get the maximum punishment.

Meanwhile the police are buoyed by the fact that the victim girl and her friend in whose presence she was abused have both identified the three accused at an identification parade that was conducted by the Salcete Executive Magistrate.

The police have to be lauded for protecting the identity of not only the victim but also the accused except for disclosing the names of the accused and their criminal activities in the past.

It may be recalled that on  May 24 Ishwar Makhawana, Dhananjay Pal and Ram Bhariya gang raped the 20- year-old Goan girl who had gone to the beach with her friend in the evening.

All the three accused persons, hailing from outside Goa, are currently in custody.
