PANJIM: Girls outshone boys once again as the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examinations (HSSCE) results saw a slight dip in pass percentage from 90.10 last year to 88.77.

Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) that announced the results on Thursday attributed this to the high number of students who had answered the exam as compared to previous years.

The 2017 examination across 16 centres saw a record 16,521 students appearing of which 14,666 passed. Girls registered an impressive 90.68 pass percent against 88.77 percent for the boys. Of the 14,666 students who passed 7806 were girls while 6860 were boys.

Stream-wise statistics say that 3216 passed in Arts stream, while 4545 in Commerce, 4473 in the Science and 2432 in the Vocational streams.

Addressing the media, GBSHSE Chairperson, Jose Rebello said, “This year students who answered in the Science stream are more than those who answered Arts and Commerce streams otherwise it always used to be Commerce.” He added, “If we have a look at the stream-wise pass percentage for Arts stream stood at 87.53 percent while Commerce had 90.70 percent, Science 88.12 percent and Vocational 88.15 percent.”

Rebello said that 3266 students were eligible for sports merit marks of whom 168 cleared the exams with the help of these marks.

“Altogether 23 higher secondary schools saw a pass percentage of 95 percent and above, the list include a special school – Lokvishwas Prathisthan, Ponda. For those who failed in any number of subjects, the Board has scheduled supplementary exams on June 8. This year there will be no October exam as the board has already scraped it as there is no wastage of one year,” he added.

The Board has also said that the last day for availing scanned copies is May 12 while for revaluation the final day is May 5 and for verification in absentia the last day is May 26.

Goa Board declared the Class XII results in record time this year two weeks earlier than the previous year in view of the professional courses entrance exams.
