Goa Board introduces Artificial Intelligence  as additional subject from Class IX onwards

PANJIM: Considering the growing demand for skilled workforce in the areas of artificial intelligence (AI), the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has implemented AI as additional subject from Class IX onwards starting from the Academic Year 2023-24. 

In a circular issued to all the secondary and higher secondary schools on Thursday, the Board has said that the subject AI will be implemented in all schools, including those which are not offering NSQF subjects. The text book for AI of Class IX will be made available in the open market by the Board shortly. 

“The new subject AI has been introduced as additional subject in line with in National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) scheme, as 7th subject for Class IX from the academic year 2023-24,” the Board Secretary V B Naik said in the circular. 

The Board has said in the coming academic year 2024-25, Class X curriculum of AI will be implemented for Class XI. 

Granting liberty to the students to chose between AI and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the Board has said that the schools or students opting for AI as 7th subject at class IX, the existing schools assessment subject ICT will be exempted and for those not opting, they will continue with ICT along with modified AI syllabus. 

“The existing syllabus of ICT in Class IX and Class XI are changed keeping in mind with changes in the field of information technology and revised syllabus are implemented from this academic year onwards,” the Goa Board said. 

For AI, the students will have 40 marks theory – 20 marks each for first and second term and 60 marks practical- 30 marks each for first and second term. 

The Goa Board has said that computer teachers will be trained in AI and ICT revised syllabus.
