PONDA: In view of the growing demand for its product, Goa Dairy is planning to restart its high fat buffalo milk soon. Goa Dairy had stopped selling full cream milk in March end this year as production was hit due to floods, climate change and exporting milk to Gulf countries.

Assistant Marketing Manager Datta Prabhakar Burye said, “Several cattle were killed in the neighbouring States last year due to flooding which led to shortfall of high fat milk and rise of price in market. Similarly in flush season i.e November and December the milk was expected to increase however unfavourable climate hit milk production, following which it was not affordable to take production of high fat or full cream buffalo milk”.

Burye further said, “India has started exporting milk to Gulf countries as export from Ukraine is stopped due to war with Russia has also affected the availability”.

“However now, with the prices being stable, the Goa Dairy is hoping to bring back the full cream (high fat) buffalo milk in market”, Burye added.

Goa dairy was supplying around 7000 litres full cream milk or buffalo milk daily basis which was also used by consumers for quality dairy products such as curd, ghee etc.

Goa Dairy was supplying around 59000 litres milk of various varieties of milk including high fat; however after stopping production of high fat milk the present sale is around 52000 litres milk.

Currently Goan farmers supply around 3000 litres milk which is required for Goa Dairy for processing of standardised milk.
