Party Prez does not commit on supporting BJP in Rajya Sabha, Presidential polls

PANJIM: Goa Forward Party has joined the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre.

After supporting Manohar Parrikar to form a BJP-led coalition government in the state, GFP joined the NDA to strengthen itself in the State.

Speaking to Herald, GFP Acting President Dr Renuka Da Silva said the party joined the NDA with an aim to strengthen its position in the state. “We have done all this to leverage our position in Goa and strengthen our cause of Goem, Goemkar and Goemkarponn,” she said.

Stating that the support to the NDA coalition is based on issues, she said. “The way the North-East was able to get the beef ban to be removed, we want our work to be done.”

Asked what were the issues, Da Silva said that all the issues pertaining to the agenda of Goemkarponn will be taken up.

Responding to a question on whether the party would support the BJP’s candidate for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Goa and also in the President of India elections, she said, “As of now we are allies of the NDA. If they are able to deal upon with the causes that we are firm upon, then we will decide. We will see when the time comes.”
