PANJIM: The All India Congress Committee on Tuesday released its 11th list of candidates but there was no mention of candidates for the two Lok Sabha where polling is scheduled on May 7.

For last one week, the announcement of candidates for two seats in the State is delayed, which is triggering discontent among workers. After the party declared its 11th list of 17 candidates, there was disappointment in the State Congress camp.

The party sources told O Heraldo that the names of candidates will be declared on April 5 before the process of filing nomination papers starts from April 12.

On the other hand, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar said, “Congress is a serious political party. We want to win both Lok Sabha seats and so we don’t want to take hasty decision. Congress will not take any decision against the wishes of people of Goa.”

According to Patkar, the Congress party is doing a survey and it will field candidates that people want. When asked whether the survey is still on when poll schedule had been announced, he said, “We had conducted one pre-poll survey which predicted Congress win and now the party is doing another survey.”

Both GPCC president Amit Patkar and Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao had attended the party’s Central Election Commission (CEC) meeting in Delhi on March 27, and had finalised the candidates for two Goa seats. Also both the leaders had another meeting with AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, where again the matter was discussed.

AICC Goa observer Manikrao Thakare had also told O Heraldo that the CEC had discussed the names and submitted the list to AICC president for final decision.

Meanwhile, the NGOs such as Goencho Ekvott has slammed the grand old party stating that the delay in announcing candidates will be ‘Mission Accomplished’ for BJP.
