PANJIM: With all security arrangements in place, Goa Police is confident that the polling process in the State for the two Lok Sabha constituencies and the three Assembly constituencies by-polls will be peaceful.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Parmaditya informed that special directions have been issued to the flying squads to maintain extra vigil against any methods of wooing the voters during the polling day.
“Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have been formed in every Assembly constituency which are centrally located with a combination of local personnel and CRPF. They will respond in the quickest time in case of any law and order situation arises within the Assembly constituency area”, he said.
DIG informed that a central control room has been established which will collect hourly information on law and order situation across the State and keep a watch on the polling situation. “The CCR will be monitored by SP Crime”, he added. As part of the security arrangements, sufficient contingency force has been deployed in case of emergency requirements, he informed.
Earlier, Inspector General of Police, Jaspal Singh on Sunday had informed that 5000 personnel including 12 companies of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been deployed across to ensure peaceful voting in Goa. He said that around Rs 2.96 crore had been seized during the model code of conduct.
Out of the 1652 polling stations, 26 have been identified as critical polling stations of which 21 are in South Goa and 5 are in North Goa. 21 polling stations have been identified as vulnerable polling stations, of which 14 are in North Goa and 7 are in South Goa.
Apart from the security personnel escort vehicle, the vehicles used for transporting EVMs and VVPATs are being monitored through GPS tracking systems.
