PANJIM: Aiming to be the first State in the country to inoculate 100 per cent of the eligible population with the anti-COVID vaccine, the Goa government has set July 30 as the target to vaccinate all in the age group of 18 to 44 years.

Expressing displeasure to the poor response received to the vaccination drive, Sawant urged eligible citizens to cooperate and get themselves inoculated.

“I want people who are eligible for the vaccination to get themselves inoculated. Goa has set a target of July 30 to vaccinate the entire population in the age group of 18 to 44 years. We want to cover this 30 per cent of the population, before the third wave (COVID) hits the State,” he said.

“I want Goa to be the first State in the country to complete 100 per cent vaccination of the beneficiaries,” he added.

The Chief Minister said that despite the government widening the scope for vaccination, people are not coming forward.

“We had opened up vaccination for parents of children below two years of age and also for those with co-morbid conditions. However, when I reviewed, I found that only 1300 people had got themselves vaccinated under this category. We have so many parents under this category,” he said adding, “To cover a larger population, we are now vaccinating parents of children till the age of five.”
