PANJIM: The State recorded its highest single-day spike of COVID-19 cases with 89 positive cases reported on Saturday. 

With this the number of confirmed cases has surged to 1,128 with 706 being active. As community transmission has already begun, new cases were recorded in Pilar and Nachinola with one case each, whereas Navelim recorded five cases.

As per the health bulletin released by the Directorate of Health Services, besides 89 positive cases, 50 patients have recovered on Saturday. A total of 420 recoveries have been recorded till date.

Out of the total, active cases from Mangor Hill and those linked to this first containment zone continue to top the COVID-19 chart. While 267 are cases from Mangor Hill, 217 are linked to this zone. Zuarinagar, one of the biggest slums, has recorded 24 cases. 

The cases at Ganganagar, Mapusa increased from two on Friday to six on Saturday. In a relief, no new cases were reported at Chimbel and Curtorim on Saturday, whereas Sada recorded 61 cases and 41 in Baina. 

A total of 662 persons are in quarantine at different quarantine centres, while six suspected COVID-19 patients are in the isolation wards.
