BJP women’s wing demands 33% seats

PANJIM: The BJP Mahila Morcha on Friday demanded 33 percent reservation for women in the 2017 State Assembly elections.

Addressing the media, Mahila Morcha President Sulakshana Sawant said that the Narendra Modi government is committed to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill, which is expected before the Assembly elections, due next year. 

“BJP governments, both at the Centre and State, are committed to political empowerment of women by granting 33 percent reservations to them. We demand that reservation be given to the fairer sex in the coming election,” Sawant said.

The BJP mahila leader said the party has already given 33 percent reservation to women in their State executive and block committees. “This itself is an encouraging and positive step,” she said. 

The Mahila Morcha has welcomed the Budget announcement rise in Griha Adhar benefit from Rs 1200 to Rs 1500 and increase in upper age limit to avail benefit under Laadli Laxmi scheme from 40 to 45 years.

The Mahila Morcha has constituted a 74-member state executive committee headed by the President and having four vice presidents, two general secretaries, five secretaries, members, permanent invitee and special invitees.
