PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar on Wednesday said that Congress is not shying away from moving a no-confidence motion against the government, claiming that it was waiting for the right opportunity.

Addressing the media, Chodankar said, “CLP has discussed this issue, including non governance. Some people have cooped together to overturn and defeat the people’s mandate. Congress is not shying away from moving no-confidence motion against the government but is waiting for the right opportunity.”

He said, “Being the single largest party in the Assembly, the Congress is vehemently opposed to any such attempt.”

Chodankar further said in the letter submitted to the Governor, that Congress has strongly urged that they should be given this opportunity to form an alternative government in such a situation and uphold the people’s mandate of 2017 Assembly election.

“Not that Congress is afraid of yet another election and we are confident that people will give us absolute majority if an election is held once again. But we feel that yet another election should not be imposed on the people of Goa within 18 months, when people had given a mandate to the Congress to rule by gaining majority number of seats,” Chodankar said.

Congress said they cannot afford to spend the exchequer’s money on elections to satisfy vested interests of some greedy politicians, especially when Goa is going through a financial crisis.
