Threaten to intensify their agitation if the problem is not resolved
BICHOLIM: Villagers from Sal in Bicholim have served a 15-day deadline on the authorities to solve the water crisis and threatened to intensify their agitation if the problem is not resolved.
At the special meeting convened by the Bicholim mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit, the villagers informed that though there is a pumping station and a dam in the village, they are not supplied water for several days.
“Since last three days there is no water supply in the village and we are forced to get water from the irrigation cannels,” informed social worker and Congress leader, Meghasham Raut.
The villagers blamed the government machinery for the water problem in the village and questioned as to how the water was restored following their agitation at the Assonora water treatment plant.
Meghasham Raut said that the erstwhile government was demanding only 500 sq mts of land for the mini-water treatment plant but the present government was are demanding 4000 sq mts which proves that it is not concerned with the welfare of the Sal villagers.
Till their demand for water is not met they would not let the authorities lay the plates of the dam, the locals warned.
Finally, there was a consensus on laying only 4 plates on the dam. The villagers demanded that the Sal rehabilitation area should get water supply for at least 5 hours daily.
Raising the irrigation water issue, the villagers demanded that the authorities supply water from the Sal Dam, as the arrangements for the same have been made. They said they cannot totally depend on the Tillari water.
The authorities sought a 15-day period to look into the demands of the villagers. The villagers threatened that if the water problem in the village is not solved they would intensify their agitation.
Officials Rumin Barreto, Vasudev Parab, Arun Naik, Vivek Parab, Abhijit Naik, Sal sarpanch Prakash Raut and other panchas were present.
