PANJIM:  An 8-year-old Goan student has made the State of Goa proud by securing the second position in the final round of national Spelling Bee competition.

Atharv Mayur Nadkarni, aged 8, who is presently studying in a school in South Goa, secured the second rank in the recently held Wiz National Spell Bee - National Mega Final 20-21.  Atharv had to go through three qualifying rounds in his category to get to the National round (school level, inter-school level and State level).

In the mega finals, there were three rounds in which Atharv was tested for pronunciation, phonetics, meaning of words and spellings from the English dictionary. The spelling round was an elimination round, the participant being eliminated for a wrongly spelt word.

Thousands of students from schools across India participated in this competition.  This was a proctored online exam with just the examiner and the participant.  The final round was held on June 26.
