MARGAO:  Residents of the WRD Colony, Gogal area of Margao and surrounding areas are panicking as Dengue has spread very fast in the vicinity. 12 cases of dengue have been detected in a matter of 1 week causing fear among people around. One of the Engineers of WRD has also been affected by the vector-borne disease and is being treated at a private hospital. 

For the last 8 days, there have been unprecedented cases of dengue being detected from the WRD quarters area in Gogol. Some of the affected patients are taking treatment at Hospicio hospital, Margao. On visiting the colony, it was revealed that a total of 12 cases of dengue have been detected there. The locals claimed that open water storage may be one of the reasons for the spread of the vector-borne disease.  People were alerted about the spread of dengue after a woman working at the offices in the area was detected with dengue. While she was discharged after receiving 7 days of treatment, another male staff from the office was also diagnosed with dengue and is being treated at a private hospital. 

The Health department has already fogged the area and necessary action has been taken. Health officer of Margao Urban Health Center Dr. Anju Kharangate said that 12 patients are being treated and that notices have been slapped on the parties concerned.
