PANJIM: Former Minister and former MP Prof Gopalrao Mayekar passed away after a brief illness at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim. He was 87.
Prof Mayekar was elected as Mapusa MLA on MGP ticket in 1967 and was inducted as a Minister for a brief time in the then Dayanand Bandodkar government. He was elected as North Goa MP on MGP tricket in the 1989 Lok Sabha polls.

Ramakant Khalap have condoled the death of Prof Mayekar.
Kamat said that prof Mayekar will be remembered for his immense contribution to the welfare of the State. Khalap said that Prof Mayekar’s death is a loss Marathi language and culture.
