PANJIM:  The business advisory committee (BAC) meeting was convened to take a decision to prorogue the Goa Assembly presently adjourned to July 19, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said adding that the Governor will prorogue the Assembly. However, the BAC meeting scheduled on Monday evening was cancelled.

When asked for the reasons for convening the BAC meeting without any agenda and later cancelling the same, Sawant said, “BAC meeting was called to inform members about the decision to prorogue the Goa Assembly. The meeting was cancelled and I spoke to members over the phone and told them the reasons,” he said adding that the Governor will now prorogue the Assembly.

It may be recalled that the budget session of the Goa Assembly was adjourned to July 19, after the model code of conduct for five municipal polls came into force and due to spike in COVID-19 cases.

The Chief Minister presented his budget on the first day of the session on March 24 and after transacting the business for three days, the BAC decided to adjourn the session to July 19. All the pending business including discussion of demand of grants for the current financial year will now be taken up when the House resumes.
