Govt, Tata Group join hands to upgrade ITIs

PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that the Goa government has tied-up with the Tata Group to upgrade 11 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the State.

Sawant said that the Tata will spend Rs 160 crore and the Goa government will spend Rs 75 crore for upgradation of ITIs. A total of Rs 235 crore will be utilised for upgradation. So far 50 per cent of the works had been completed and all 11 ITIs will be well-equipped with new skill sets and become centre of excellence.

The Chief Minister announced that a new course in hospitality and house-keeping will be started in ITIs from mid-July wherein students will be given training in ITIs for six month and will later they will be trained in starred hotels for next six months. The government has also joined hands with Taj Hotels.   

Meanwhile, the State government will celebrate the World Skill Day at the Kala Academy hall, Campal-Panjim at 11 am on Thursday, July 11. On the occasion, students who excelled in skill sets and won national awards and companies who have given skill sets will be felicitated. Also there will be a presentation of skill sets available in all ITIs at the venue. The government is stressing on skilling, reskilling and upskilling, Sawant said.
