VASCO: To provide relief to the people affected by the Supreme Court order banning liquor outlets within 500 meters distance from national/state highway, the State government has taken a decision to de-notify NH17-A road connecting Cortalim to MPT via Chicalim.

Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida said that the NH17-A road will likely be de-notified within a month.

Speaking to reporters in Vasco on Tuesday, Almeida said that due to Supreme Court order most of the traditional bar and wine shop owners from Vasco were forced to close down operations, however coming to rescue of the affected people, the government have already sought de-notification of NH17-A road.

“Now, as per the decision of government, the file seeking de-notification of NH17-A road has already moved through office of Principal Chief Engineer (PCE) PWD. NH 17-A road passes through Swantrapath lane which is the main shopping area of Vasco and many outlets have been affected. I think it should take at least one month for the Centre’s approval for de-notification of NH17 A and this would help lot of affected people,” Almeida said.
