PANJIM: Commuters in Panjim will finally get some relief from the sweltering heat and later the rain, as the authorities concerned have restarted the work of putting in place bus stop sheds in the city. Senior citizens, were the most inconvenienced and were compelled to stand in the sweltering heat to wait for the bus to reach their respective destinations.

On May8, O Heraldo had highlighting how commuters in State’s capital city were facing inconvenience in the absence of bus shelters along Dayanand Bandodkar Road.

The bus shelters were removed reportedly by the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) in view of the G20 Summit related meetings in Goa, following the directions from the State government. The bus shelters from prime locations such as Miramar Circle, Panjim ferry wharf, Bal Bhavan, Kala Academy, etc were removed.

Now, as the authorities concerned are constructing new bus shelters reportedly under the Smart City Mission,  it will provide much needed relief to the commuters as the summer temperatures keep soaring and the monsoon is just weeks away.

A senior citizen Ramakant Uskaikar said, “I am extremely happy that the government is finally constructing new bus shelters, I hope they complete them at least before the onset of the monsoon.”
