Govt initiates process  to set up AIIMS in Goa

PANJIM: State Government has initiated process to set up All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Goa. 

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday called on AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria with regards to setting up AIIMS in Goa. "We discussed at length about setting up AIIMS in Goa that will help change the dynamics of healthcare in the State," said Rane after the meeting. 

“Our aim is in line with our Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of setting up AIIMS in each State,” Rane added.

Rane had in September, moved a proposal to Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan to set-up an AIIMS-style facility in Goa. 

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had also in his Liberation Day speech announced the government’s plan to set up AIIMS, for which necessary financial support has been sought. 

 “We further discussed having an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) consistent with the Kerala model to develop a state-of-the art Emergency Medicine facility in the State of Goa,” Rane added.
