PANJIM: With the recent influx of visitors to Goa via various modes of transportation, the State government is contemplating to restart the previous system of issuing travel passes that require approval by District Authorities.

Goa reported nearly 60 COVID-19 cases, all of persons who had travelled from red zones, more specifically Maharashtra.

“It is imperative that we restart the permit system to keep a record of the number of people entering the State,” Health Minister Vishwajit Rane tweeted.

As per the previous system, district collectors would issue travel passes to people if they wanted to enter the State and also to move out of the State. However, the system was discontinued during Lockdown 4, with the government allowing self generating e-passes.

Rane said that following the recent influx of visitors, he has requested Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to put a cap on the number of people entering from the neighbouring States as they are a hotspot for coronavirus transmission.

“I am confident that the Chief Minister will review my request and help us fight the increasing number of cases in the State,” the Minister said.

Rane is also of the view that government should put cap on number of visitors entering the State per day.
