PANJIM: In a major modification, the State Government has revised the parents’ income limit to Rs three lakhs as against Rs eight lakhs for the beneficiaries of Laadli Laxmi scheme, which provides financial assistance of Rs one lakh to a girl to meet her education and other expenses on becoming a major. 

The government has extended the benefit of the scheme to the people affected by Tillari Irrigation Project- a joint venture of Goa and Maharashtra. 

Under the amended scheme, the notification of which was issued on Thursday, the applicant girl is eligible to receive the financial aid provided her parents’ annual income does not exceed Rs three lakhs. 

The applicant has to be resident of Goa for at least 15 years and whose one of the parent is born in Goa or residing in the State for last 25 years. In case the applicant is born outside Goa, then she has to reside in the State for 15 years having minimum 7 years education. 

The scheme, under department of Women and Child, was introduced in 2013 by the BJP-led government. 

Further, the government added that the affected person of Tillari Irrigation Project, who is rehabilitated in the State, can also apply under the scheme, on production of certificate by the North District Collector, relaxing the condition of 10/15 years domicile in the State of Goa for various purposes for her family.
