Govt officials inspect accident prone NH66 passing through Canacona

The exercise was undertaken over the fallout of frequent accidents happening on this stretch due to the bad condition of the NH66 here

Canacona: In keeping with the assurance given by the Canacona deputy collector, officials of various government departments visited and inspected the NH66 road between Polem to Karmalghat on Tuesday. 

The exercise was undertaken over the fallout of frequent accidents happening on this stretch due to the bad condition of the NH66 here. It may be noted that due to the closure of the Belgaum Goa road via Andod, all vehicles coming to Goa are diverted through Canacona which has put tremendous pressure on the already narrow road. These has resulted in frequent accidents leading to loss of property and traveling time due to road blocks.

After three accidents were reported back to back in Poinguinim in the beginning of this month the deputy collector had assured the agitating public the authorities would inspect this stretch and suggest changes to make this road safer for the  community.

The inspection was carried out in the presence of Canacona Deputy collector Sagun Velip, Police Inspector Rajendra Prabhudessai, National Higway officials, RTO, Traffic cell incharge Goutham Salunke, forest officials, Loliem-Polem Sarpanch Ajay Lolienkar, Janardhan, Pralay Bhagat, Shubham Komarpant, Shailesh Pagi, Nishant prabhugaonkar, Sachin Naik, Pramod Bhandari, Uddhav Mulgaonkar, Mithal Chari and Krishna Naik. After this inspection the officials of various departments will suggest and implement time bound changes which are supposed to improve traffic management on this road a source said.
