Govt plans to install solar power panels on all its bldgs

PANJIM: The Goa government has ambitious plans to install solar power panels on all its buildings across the State.

 Renewable Energy Minister Sudin Dhavalikar on Friday said that initially solar power panels will be installed on 76 government buildings situated in and around the capital city and to being with the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) selected as Smart City will be taken as a pilot project. 

Dhavalikar said that the government has invited tenders for this project and based on the response received, it will be implemented for other government buildings. “We will start with big building first followed by other small buildings.” 

He also disclosed that the New Renewable Energy Department has plans to erect solar panel on the roof of the Goa Assembly Complex at Porvorim which, according to him, will be possible only after seeking approval of MLAs and the Speaker in particular.

The department has already decided to have one MW of solar power for the Goa Engineering College at Farmagudi, he added.

The Minister said that the government is providing a 50 per cent subsidy to install solar power. People in Goa have started to set up solar power panels in their buildings and urged the people to make optimum use of benefits of all schemes implemented by both, the Central and the State government.
