PANJIM: Congress has once again attacked the government over the import of formalin-laced fish and the alleged cover up by the Food & Drugs Administration (FDA).

Senior party leader Francisco Sardinha accused the government for playing with the lives of the people. “Around 17 trucks laden with fish had entered Goa on July 12 and though it was initially found to be filled with formalin, these trucks later disappeared. It means these fish stock were sold for some purpose. The fish agent should have been behind bars and police should have registered a first information report, but police did nothing,” Sardinha said addressing a press conference on Monday.

The former minister also accused the government stating ‘it is playing with the lives of the people’. “The minister has said that it was within permissible limits. The government is playing with the lives of the people,” he added.

Sardinha also slammed the sky rocketing price of fish while urging the government to ensure that import of wholesale fish and vegetables should be checked and the agents registered with Fisheries and Agriculture Departments respectively.
