Govt proposes 24x7 KTC bus service

PANJIM: The State government has proposed to start 24X7 Kadamba bus service on lines with other emergency services such as medical, police and fire departments. 
Speaking at a function to celebrate Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited’s (KTCL) 39th anniversary, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said the proposal would cover places in urgent need of the bus service round the clock. 
“KTCL has reached out to every place till the remote parts of Goa. During any transport strike, KTCL always comes to the rescue of the commuters. Since it has connected rural with urban, people are at convenience to continue with education and jobs. We are now mooting to start 24X7 Kadamba bus services across places that need this transport system the most,” he said. 
The government, he said, is also contemplating to curb pollution by introducing non-pollution or zero emission electrical buses. With 100-150 Kadamba electrical buses expected to be launched in near future, the Chief Minister urged that private bus operators besides the general public should support the initiative for the sake of preserving and protecting the environment. 
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho, also present at the function, has proposed to improve the condition of the bus stands by roping-in private agency. Similarly, ‘bus tracking system’ is another proposal in the pipeline. 
“The transport system should undergo revamp,” he commented. The minister suggested increasing KTCL revenue by entering into ‘parcel’ business alike other private inter-State buses as well as advertisements on the bus. 
At the event, Chief Minister also called upon Goans to return to traditional occupation such as agriculture and fishing while government will render complete support to such endeavors.
