PANJIM: The State government has notified COVID-19 relief scheme to provide one-time financial assistance of Rs 5,000 to the people from marginalised or unorganised sector, whose livelihoods were affected due the pandemic. 

In a notification issued on July 28, the Directorate of Social Welfare has notified “COVID-19 Relief to Marginalised/Unorganised Sector” scheme that will be applicable to all those people who are engaged in traditional occupations and business in Goa, mostly Goans that were proven operational/production/marketing history before liberation of Goa (1961). 

Besides this, the target group also includes the motorcycle pilots, taxi drivers, bus drivers, goods carrier, and auto Rickshaw drivers or owners, who were affected on account of COVID-19 pandemic. 

The State cabinet had earlier this month accorded its approval to the scheme. 

“The primary objective of the scheme is to provide a one-time financial relief to a large number of people engaged in different marginalised/unorganised sectors, whose livelihood/source of income has been interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” the notification states. 

A committee under Deputy Director of Social Welfare is constituted to scrutinise the applications received, within 15 days. 

The forms will be made available at the concerned panchayats and municipalities, who are directed to fill the forms and submit it to the department.
