Govt warns against hoarding, hiking prices of masks, sanitisers

PANJIM: The government, in a notice, has warned the stakeholders against hoarding of essential commodities like masks, hand sanitizers; nor sell at a price higher than printed on the packet or commodity. In case any hoarding or black marketing of this products/commodities are noticed/reported strict action under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 and/or any other relevant Acts/Rules in force will be initiated against the defaulters during the aforesaid period. 

The wholesalers and retailers/pharmacist should ensure that sufficient stock is maintained in their registered godowns/shops and the same are made available to the general public as and when required. 

Government notice said that the retail prices of masks (3 ply surgical masks), shall not be more than the prices prevailing on the day one month prior to 13.03.2020 i.e as on 12.02.2020 or not more than Rs 10 per piece whichever is lower and that of mask (2ply) shall not be more than Rs 8 per piece.

The retail prices of hand sanitizer shall not be more than Rs 100 per bottle of 200 ml; the prices of other quantities of hand sanitisers shall be fixed in the proportion of these prices.

The general public is advised to bring to the notice of the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Panjim or the Department of Legal Metrology, Porvorim, for any hoarding or illegalities noticed in the supply/sales of the above cited commodities.
