Efforts were taken to remove the water and ensure no patients were inconvenienced

MARGAO: A blocked drainage line and consequent flooding at Hospicio Hospital, Margao created havoc on the ground floor of the Hospital, which was flooded on Wednesday afternoon.

The patients and the visitors along with the staff of the Hospicio had a tough time navigating through the water in Hospicio. The employees and patients at Hospicio were left in a fix after water started flooding the floor, following the heavy rain experienced in the city.

It took a lot of time for the staff to pinpoint the exact reason for the water-logging. It was later understood, that the flooding was caused due to a choked drainage line. The entire ground floor of the hospital was waterlogged by the drainage water within 20 minutes. The Hospicio staff sent all the visitors of the patients outside and removed the water. The work was on till evening.

The Medical Superintendent of Hospicio Dr. Ira Almeida while speaking on this issue, said they had immediately taken up the work of repairs of the above problem. It was further revealed that due to clogging of dried leaves of trees into the drainage line the floor was flooded. Fortunately, no emergency or critical patients were caught up or faced inconvenience due to this flooding.
